The new 2021 Ford Explorer specs include a powerful turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that delivers a smooth and comfortable ride with a quiet interior. The Explorer has great fuel economy with 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

This SUV comes standard with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, giving you the power to explore all types of terrain. The Explorer also comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available as well. It also comes available in a Hybrid model.

This vehicle's sporty engine gives it an athletic feel behind the wheel, with power and comfort in your hands. The base trim Explorer has a towing capacity of 5,300 lbs and trims equipped with the optional 3L V6 engine can tow 5,600 lbs.

If you're looking to tow a trailer for a camping trip, the Explorer can manage the load with its trailer sway control system. This technology uses an electronic stability control system to keep your trailer from swaying too much while on the road. The Explorer also comes standard with remote keyless entry, push-button start, and remote start.

Safety

Interior

The new 2021 Ford Explorer offers a comfortable and roomy interior with three rows to fit plenty of passengers and cargo. The second row has a 35/30/35 split-fold-flat bench seat and the third row has a 50/50 split-fold bench seat. With three rows, the Explorer can seat 7 passengers.

If you need to put in some car seats, there are four sets of LATCH connectors available. There are two in the second row and two in the third row. These complete LATCH connector sets received the second-highest rating for easy usage from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. While the base trim comes with cloth seating surfaces, other trims offer higher-end materials.

Infotainment

The new 2021 Ford Explorer comes standard with several infotainment features that make it an enjoyable ride. These include an 8-inch touch screen, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto integration, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, four USB ports, 12V power ports, and hotspot WiFi through FordPass Connect.

Other infotainment features are available on different trim levels including a 10.1-inch portrait layout touch screen, a customizable driver display, wireless device charging, back seat entertainment systems, and a 14-speaker sound system.

The Explorer's touch screen system uses SYNC 3, Ford's standard infotainment system, which is easy to use. The FordPass Connect system is also available. FordPass Connect allows users to connect to their car using the FordPass app. With the app, you can unlock/lock your car, start your car, and get details on your car's oil, fuel, and mileage. The FordPass system also gives you access to a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, so you're always connected.

The New 2021 Ford Explorer: Trim Levels

The 2021 Ford Explorer comes available in 6 different trim levels:

The base trim comes standard with 10-speed automatic transmission, 18" painted aluminum wheels, auto high beams, LED taillights, a power liftgate, power glass, manual-folding side view mirrors, privacy glass for back rows and trunk, and power locks and windows.

It also comes with tri-zone automatic temperature control, rear auxiliary climate control, remote keyless entry, five 12V power ports, and a rearview camera. The base trim is equipped with advanced features such as FordPass Connect, MyKey, and Reverse Sensing System.

The more expensive trims come with some features not included in the base trim. The XLT trim, which comes with an available Sport package, comes standard with roof rack side rails, first-row heated seats, and second-row bucket seats with a console. The Sport package comes with 20" carbonized, gray-painted wheels and grille bars and mesh insert.

The Limited trim comes standard with several advanced features including halogen reflector high beams, power fold mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, forward sensing system, and heated steering wheel.

It also comes with second-row sun blinds, second-row heated captain seats, a wireless charging pad, and a voice-activated navigation system. It also comes with leather seating with accent stitching which makes it a more luxurious trim.

The Timberline is the trim that outdoor enthusiasts will, especially love. Featuring a sporty, rugged look, this trim comes with off-road capabilities. The trailer tow package included with this trim allows for the easy pull of a trailer for summer adventures.

The ST trim also comes standard with leather seats and all the features that come standard on the Limited. It also comes with a powerful 12 speaker sound system from Bang and Olufsen, delivering high-quality sound when listening to tunes on the road. The ST features a powerful 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine for even more power on the road.

The King Ranch trim gives the Explorer a luxurious interior with Del Rio leather seating for all rows. Like the ST, it also comes with the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine which features auto start/stop technology. Another luxurious addition to this trim is the 20" ten-spoke aluminum wheels.
